What each fee covers

Where every dollar goes

Each charge is paid to a distinct party — carrier, state, TPA, or advisor. Nothing is bundled or hidden.

01

Design & placement

Paid once at issue. Covers structuring, jurisdiction and carrier selection, IMA/IDF documentation, underwriting coordination, and policy delivery.

02

Premium tax

Pass-through to the state of issue. Deducted from premium before it hits the policy. Typical range 0–3.5%; ~1.5% is a blended U.S. estimate.

03

Policy administration

Flat annual fee paid to the third-party administrator for recordkeeping, statements, tax reporting, and ongoing compliance — not a percentage of assets.

04

Advisory

The RIA or consulting fee assessed against cash value inside the policy. Excludes underlying fund expenses. Breakpoints reward larger policies.

05

Carrier M&E

Mortality-and-expense risk charge paid to the carrier. Varies with insured age, health, and death-benefit design; ranges assume a standard non-MEC VUL chassis.

06

Loan interest

Interest rate charged on policy loans taken against cash value. Lower rates apply at higher premium tiers, giving larger policies more efficient access to tax-free liquidity.
