Definition
Accredited Investor
An investor qualification under SEC Regulation D that gates access to private securities offerings.
Full definition
Rule 501 of Regulation D defines an Accredited Investor to include individuals with $1M net worth (excluding primary residence) or $200K/$300K single/joint income, entities with more than $5M in assets, and certain licensed financial professionals. Being an Accredited Investor is a prerequisite to buying PPLI, but generally not sufficient on its own — most carriers also require Qualified Purchaser status.
